Congratulations to our fantastic senior football team who won the Cumann na mBunscol final in Croke Park on Tuesday. Four bus loads of supporters followed the team bus to Croke Park with flags, headbands, banners and drums. Twenty-two heroes took to the field and each put in a performance filled with passion and determination.
We went behind early on but quickly recovered with a point from the lively Matilda Gaffney. Grace Parker and Summer Keating added excellent scores but a goal conceded saw us trial by a point at the break.
The second half saw us dominate with Sophie Smart making an incredible goal line clearance. Lana Cummins, Megan Downey, Eva Mooney and the rest of their defenders were tenacious. Alannah McDermott enjoyed her free role giving us such energy travelling forward with the ball from deep. Bonnie Wynne and Lizzie Molloy were busy in the forward line. Zara Maguire had scored 8 goals in her previous two games and added another here with her knee! They all count Zara.
Summer added three more excellent points and together with her midfield partner Vilte Auskalnyte they caught every ball and controlled the game. What a duo! Our seven subs gave us such energy whether on the pitch or shouting support from the line Francesca Behan performed admirably in the forwards and back, Amy Holmes took over from where Ava Lily Smithers had left off and Laragh Gernon forced a turnover when pressing with Bonnie.
The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes from the players (and coaches ) on the pitch and supporters in the Hogan Stand. The celebrations continued back at school. The team were greeted with w guard of honour in school on Wednesday and enjoyed a well earned trip to Burger King on Thursday.
